How to clean your Wheels?

How do you clean your wheels? This instruction can help you keep your wheels look like new ones.

Common rules for keeping wheels in good condition

Wheels require regular care to maintain their factory appearance. Clean them regularly. Please note that warranty claims on finish will be voided if improper maintenance or improper cleaning agents are used. Typical road dirt traps moisture that, over a period of time, can cause corrosion. Brake dust, created by braking friction, is corrosive and can cause pitting of the wheel’s finish. Mild dish soap and water is all you need to properly clean your wheels. Care for the finish of your wheels the way you would care for the finish of your car. Do not use abrasive materials to clean wheels as they can damage the finish. Use caution when cleaning tires with a bristle brush and never use scouring pads. Use caution in automatic car washes because steam cleaners and strong chemicals that are sometimes used can cause permanent staining or corrosion. Never clean wheels when they are hot. Always allow wheels time to cool before cleaning with soap and water. Never spray cold water on extremely hot wheels.

Polished aluminum

Clean a polished aluminum finish using mild dish soap and water; dry with a soft cloth. The appearance of polished wheels (that are not clear coated) will diminish over time unless they receive additional care and maintenance. After cleaning, apply a coat of soft, non-abrasive cream wax or wheel seal. A specially formulated custom wheel polish and wheel seal is recommended to return the shine to oxidized wheels. The finish on polished aluminum wheels is not covered under any warranty.

Chrome-plated steel

Clean a chrome finish using mild dish soap and water; dry with a soft cloth. After cleaning, apply a coat of soft, non-abrasive cream wax or wheel seal to prevent surface corrosion. Surface corrosion and rust can be prevented with proper care and is not covered under any warranty.

Cleaning your wheels can be done in a few simple steps:

  1. Start by rinsing the wheels with a hose to remove any loose dirt or debris.

  2. Mix a solution of mild soap and water in a bucket. Use a wheel-specific cleaner or a mild detergent such as dish soap.

  3. Use a wheel brush or a stiff-bristled brush to scrub the wheels, paying extra attention to the brake dust and grime that can accumulate in the crevices.

  4. Rinse the wheels again thoroughly with a hose to remove any remaining cleaning solution or dirt.

  5. Dry the wheels with a clean microfiber towel or chamois to prevent water spots.

  6. If the wheels are still dirty or have brake dust stains, you can use a wheel cleaner specifically formulated to remove brake dust. Follow the instructions on the cleaner and rinse thoroughly after use.

  7. To protect your wheels and make them shine, you can apply a wheel sealant or wax.

It's important to note: that before you start cleaning your wheels, you should check the owner's manual to see if the manufacturer has any specific recommendations for cleaning and maintaining your wheels. Additionally, it's always good to check the type of wheel you have, whether it's alloy, steel or chrome, as some cleaning methods may not be suitable for certain types of wheels.
